From Kaja Whitehouse at the New York Post:
House Republicans want US Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint an independent counsel to investigate the 2011 collapse of MF Global, saying they are concerned about potential conflicts of interest involving former CEO Jon Corzine.Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY), surrounded by his Republican colleagues at an event on Capitol Hill yesterday, said they would send a letter to Holder, asking him to appoint a special counsel to probe the firm and $1.6 billion in missing client money, including improperly transferred funds.Grimm and his supporters cited Corzine’s connections to powerful DC movers and shakers, including his role as a fundraiser for President Obama. Corzine, a Democrat, served in the Senate from 2001 until 2006, and was governor of New Jersey.“We’re not saying there is impropriety, we’re saying the perception is there and for that reason an independent counsel is warranted,” Grimm told The Post.
